2017 Subaru Legacy, Outback and Forester
with Optional EyeSight and Specific Headlights
Meet IIHS’ Highest Standard of Safety “2017 TOP SAFETY PICK + (TSP+)”
(applies to US models only)

Tokyo, December 14, 2016 – Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the manufacturer of Subaru automobiles, today announced that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS; a nonprofit organization supported by auto insurers in the US) has awarded the highest standard of safety, 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+), along with “Good” and “Acceptable” ratings for the newly introduced headlight evaluations, to the 2017 Subaru Legacy (when equipped with Optional EyeSight and specific headlights), Outback (when equipped with Optional EyeSight and specific headlights) and Forester (when equipped with Optional EyeSight and specific headlights built after Oct. 2016) .

EyeSight achieved a world first in using solely stereo camera technology to provide a driver assist system incorporating features such as adaptive cruise control and pre-collision braking that detects not only cars, but also pedestrians, bicycles, and motorcycles. FHI keeps offering substantially enhanced preventive safety performance to more customers by expanding the EyeSight driver assist technology to the global market.

IIHS toughened the criteria for TSP+ to reflect new headlight evaluations launched in 2016. The recognition program is meant to encourage manufacturers to offer state-of-the-art protection for people in crashes, along with features that help drivers avoid crashes in the first place. In addition to good or acceptable headlights, the latter includes automatic braking technology, which has been part of the criteria since 2015.
